The First of Many Disasters: Louis Vierne Breaks his Leg

Fate can be exceptionally cruel sometimes. One person who learned this the hard way was French organist and composer Louis Vierne. He was born in 1870 with a severe visual impairment. It wasn't until he was seven years old that he could see well enough to go about at least some of his day-to-day life unassisted. And that was just the beginning of his woes. Later, he claimed that 1906 marked "the beginning of the disasters."
