During the Corona pandemic, it has become all the clearer that humanity needs to stand together. What is called for is solidarity among people of all nations. Beethoven's "Ninth" expresses this hope like no other work; and this brotherhood of all peoples was also Bartók's declared aim. Solidarity means standing up for one another, for example with benefit concerts – and at the most extreme, even facing of death as a collective, as in Poulenc's opera "Dialogues des Carmélites".
