A withdrawal into inwardness: the third part of the internet concert series from the Symphoniker Hamburg focuses on song, pastoral images and transient moods. The program includes two instrumental works: excerpts from Schubert's theater music Rosamunde and a rare version of Robert Schumann's Fantasiestücke op. 73, featuring cellist Andrei Ioniță and the great Martha Argerich at the piano – elegiac and warm. Amidst the minor repetitions arises the clarinet voice of David Orlowsky, conjuring up a sense of melancholy, while soprano Julia Kleiter sings lieder by Schubert and Hector Berlioz. At the center of the program is the third movement of Gustav Mahler's Lied von der Erde, in which Daniel Behle delights in the pleasures of youth and frivolity.
