Live, without an audience: We were able to win Iveta Apkalna, one of the world's most celebrated organists, for a – literally – exclusive concert. For the audience at home, she will fill the empty concert hall of the Konzerthaus Dortmund with Johann Sebastian Bach's mighty organ sounds. And she dares a fascinating dialogue: Bach's contrapuntal sound cathedrals meet Philip Glass' repetitive and yet transcendent musical simplicity. Iveta Apkalna is predestined for a program such as this one: Her repertoire includes the essence of Bach right up to Contemporary Music, without any fears of contact, but always with the highest musicality and sophisticated technique.
Musicians are faced with big problems due to the coronavirus. The crisis is hitting freelance artists especially hard because they cannot perform – and are faced with massive financial and existential problems. The German Orchestra Foundation (Deutsche Orchesterstiftung) is going help with an emergency fund. Please help as well; every donation counts.
