When Carl Maria von Weber accepted the commission for Oberon, he had no idea that it was going to be his final opera – just two months after the premiere, he died from tuberculosis. Forever in the shadow of the Freischütz, this story of the quarreling elf king and queen Oberon and Titania is glaringly overlooked. Lahav Shani and the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino present the overture to Weber's swan song. After that, the young maestro Shani plays Mozart's Piano Concerto no. 27 in B major, conducting from his seat at the piano. Last but not least, the conductor and orchestra present Schumann's "Spring" Symphony, a delightful preview of the coming season – a concert about endings and beginnings.
