Portraits of the Russian soul in Paris: In 2017-2018, Philippe Jordan conducted a cycle of all of Tchaikovsky's symphonies. Although it is less well-known, the first symphony is often considered as the most creative of the six symphonies. Against string tremoli, the flute and bassoon announce the melancholy theme in the first movement. This is followed by the relaxed Adagio, with its wealth of melodies, a rapid Scherzo, and the initially somber finale which however soon picks up, closing with a jubilant tutti. A project very dear to the chief conductor and "his" Paris orchestra.
