Ludwig van Beethoven: Piano Concertos No. 2 and 3

Rudolf Buchbinder and the Vienna Philharmonic
Back
{{ message.content }}

Ludwig van Beethoven used his early piano concertos to come to terms with Mozart, the genius and child prodigy he wished he could have studied music with. Beethoven actually started work on the Piano Concerto no. 2 in B major before no.1, and the work is full of flirtatious encounters with the First Viennese School. The third is his only piano concerto in a minor key, and the symphonic scale of the work is bolder – Beethoven was now thinking bigger, using Mozart as a springboard. Rudolf Buchbinder leads the Vienna Philharmonic from behind the piano.

In cooperation with the Grafenegg Festival, ORF III and Fidelio.

Rudolf Buchbinder appears by kind permission of the Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft.
