Mozartfest Würzburg: Jörg Widmann & Schumann Quartett

The Mozartfest Würzburg is celebrating its 100th birthday. Joining in with the festivities are Jörg Widmann and the Schumann Quartet: The former Würzburg artistes étoiles bring a grand "tally-ho" to the emperor's hall in the world heritage Würzburg Residence. Mozart's String Quartet KV 458 isn't the only work summoning us to the hunt: inspired by the first Viennese school, Widmann has composed his own "hunting quartet", a work in which the notes stalk one another. In the finale: Mozart displaying exceptional mastery. For his Clarinet Quintet, Widmann and the Schumann Quartet take to the podium together. The clarinetist is in no doubt that it is one of the most impressive works of chamber music of all: "a completely serene work, of a beauty which one cannot get hold of."
