The Youth Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine was already a set part of the program in autumn 2021 when planning for the Young Euro Classic festival began. When the war broke out, the festival management and orchestra jointly decided to reserve the concert evening for the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine. That's exactly what the Ukrainian musicians want. Zoltan Almashi opens the essentially Ukrainian program with Maria's City, an Adagio for strings that tells of the proud history and terrible destruction of the city of Mariupol and celebrates its German premiere in this concert. This will be followed by Yevgen Stankowitsch's Ukrainian Poem for violin and orchestra, with violinist Andrii Murza taking the solo part. Grazyna is a symphonic poem by Boris Lyatoshynskyj, a late romantic who is considered the father of independent Ukrainian orchestral music, and a chamber cantata for voice and orchestra by Oleh Kyva composed in 1982, which celebrates the eternal beauty of the world. Here, mezzo-soprano Nataliia Kukhar will take center stage. Dvorák's melodic Ninth Symphony From the New World concludes with an open-hearted optimism, which – contrary to what the title suggests – deals primarily with the composer's homesickness for his Bohemian homeland. The youth orchestra is conducted by Oksana Lyniv, the impressive up-and-comer who last year was the first woman to make her debut at the Bayreuth Festival.
